Three things an IUL does at once

Protects your family, builds tax-deferred cash value, and can pay you early if illness or injury takes you out of the seat.

What an IUL actually does

One life insurance policy, four jobs for your household.

A death benefit your family can count on

Indexed universal life pays a generally income-tax-free death benefit to the people you name, enough to clear the truck note, the mortgage and the years of income they'd lose.

Living benefits while you're still here

Accelerated benefit riders can pay a portion of your death benefit early after a qualifying critical, chronic or terminal diagnosis, so a health event doesn't drain the savings.

Cash value tied to an index

Interest is credited based on an index like the S&P 500, with a floor that keeps a down year from producing a negative credit. Growth is tax-deferred inside the policy.

Tax-advantaged income later

A properly funded policy can be borrowed against in retirement, and policy loans are generally not taxable income, which is why drivers use IUL alongside a 401(k) or nothing at all.

Owned by you vs. owned by them

The policy you own behaves very differently.

Group life through the carrier

  • Ends the day the job ends
  • Face amount is usually a fraction of what a family needs
  • No cash value, no loans, no living benefits

An IUL in your name

  • Stays with you between carriers and into your own authority
  • Death benefit sized to the mortgage, the note and lost income
  • Cash value you can borrow against, plus living benefit riders

IUL questions drivers actually ask

What exactly is an IUL?
Indexed universal life is permanent life insurance. Part of each premium pays for the death benefit; the rest builds cash value that earns interest based on a market index, with a floor (often 0%) on the downside and a cap or participation rate on the upside.
Do I need a medical exam or a DOT physical for this?
Often no exam at all. Many drivers qualify through carriers that underwrite with health questions and database checks. Your licensed agent will tell you which carriers do that for your age and health history.
How is this different from the group life at my carrier?
Group life is owned by your employer and usually ends when the job does. An IUL is your contract: it follows you between carriers, into a lease-purchase or into your own authority, at the rate you locked in.
Can I really use the cash value while I'm alive?
Yes, through policy loans or withdrawals once value has accumulated. Drivers use it for a major repair, downtime, a down payment on a truck, or supplemental retirement income. Loans reduce the death benefit until repaid.
Will I get hammered with calls?
No. One state-licensed agent reviews your answers before reaching out, and you decide when that conversation happens. You can opt out any time.
Is Truckers Coverage USA an insurance company?
No. We're an independent platform that connects professional drivers with state-licensed life insurance agents and the carriers that issue the policies.

Your family shouldn't be one bad day away from a GoFundMe.
