Benefits

What an IUL actually pays for in a driver's life.

Indexed Universal Life is permanent life insurance with a cash value account attached. For professional drivers it does three jobs at once: protect the household, build money you own, and pay out early if your health takes you off the road.

Death benefit that clears the debt

Your beneficiaries receive a generally income-tax-free payout. Drivers size it to wipe out the truck note, the mortgage and several years of the income the household would lose.

Living benefits you can use

Accelerated benefit riders can advance part of the death benefit after a qualifying critical, chronic or terminal diagnosis. That money is yours to spend on treatment, the note, or simply staying afloat while you are out of the seat.

Cash value linked to an index

Interest is credited from the movement of an index such as the S&P 500, with a floor so a losing year does not produce a negative credit, and a cap or participation rate on the upside. Growth is tax-deferred inside the policy.

Policy loans when cash flow gets tight

Once value has built, you can borrow against it for a major repair, extended downtime or a down payment on your next truck. Policy loans are generally not taxable income. Unpaid loans reduce the death benefit.

Tax-advantaged income later

A properly funded IUL can supplement retirement income for drivers who never had a pension and could not lean on a company 401(k) between carriers.

Premiums with some flexibility

Universal life gives you room to adjust what you pay within limits, which matters in a business where a strong quarter and a slow quarter do not look the same.
